Collaboration with GSA

Collins Debden and Communication Design at The Glasgow School of Art are proud to unveil a new collaboration - the launch of The Collins Debden Graduate Award- a prestigious design award that will see a Communication Design student’s designs featured in Collins’ diary and stationery collection.

As part of the curriculum, GSA students have the chance to work with Collins to create a unique design for a diary or stationery. The winner will not only receive a cash prize but also the opportunity to see their design come to life. Additionally, recognition and cash prizes will be awarded to the second and third place winners. This is a fantastic chance for budding designers to showcase their talent and creativity on a professional platform.

Katie Smith

As the inaugural winner of the Collins Debden Graduate Award, Katie Smith has collaborated with Collins to produce a series of designs, incorporating her playful, energetic and colourful style.

Through the use of both analogue and digital techniques, she uses bright colours to promote a positive attitude and brighten up your day.

Through the use of her signature style, Katie has depicted a scene of a retro party featuring the famous 80s Dialatron red lips phone complemented with a spinning, sparkling disco ball and a lemon cocktail in the foreground.

Retro Object Range

Katie has depicted retro objects such as the 50s floating armchair, the 60s flowerpot table lamp and the 80s wall hung kitchen phone, known for its long curly cords. Each diary is designed such that a part of the object graphic continues to the back cover of the diary. This whimsical and playful design detail suits the simple yet bold graphic, especially with the choice of retro, warm tones which make the objects pop.
